Nomenclature

Got important news to declare!

From now on, Jiefang's english name will be
Clarisse!

Ok, to start with, we had to choose her name cos of a looming threat from her manager, Nick. He's caucasian, and says he really can't pronounce Jiefang no matter how hard he tried. So during one meeting, he declared Jiefang's name as Bobo. After 3 days, everyone started getting used to the name and she started panicking. Thus me and my brother to the rescue.

Name was chosen by Ken (my brother) and I. We thought the name had a nice elegant flair, and a tinge of french flavour. The name is linked with brightness, gentleness, and FAME!!! And I'm pretty confident she will be someday. So no, don't think silence-of-the-lambs-clarisse but Jiefang-Clarisse.

She's had a ridiculously good history of good luck by the way.

In primary school, her parents happened to have the chance to learn to use the computer from the age of 10. At 11, she entered into a computing competition and topped her school, and second in the whole province of Guangdong, without even knowing the format of the examination.

Cos of the above prize, she was recommended for the most prestigious prize in Guangdong, of which 3 are awarded every year. Applicants number in the millions.

Cos of the above prize, she was recommended for the sg scholarship application, even though her lower sec grad exam results missed the minimum requirements by A SINGLE POINT.

Cos she was a girl, she was picked for private interview by the principal of RGS. Only a handful were picked, as the principal specially made the trip over there to have a choice of students before the remaining applicants flowed into the other participant schools. And she passed. So result was she got into RGS when people who scored much better than her ended up in neighbourhood schools.

Cos she was from RGS, she managed to get into RJC with an O level L1R5 of 8. Cos she got 6 at prelims, and got pre-entry by affiliation and higher Chinese, and pre-entry students get a priviledge. If she had gotten reverse, i.e. 8 at prelims and 6 for finals, she wouldn't have gotten in cos she has absolute zero cca points.

But at JC, she got her first truly deserving credentials. 3 A's for Maths, Econs and Physics and a B for F Maths. Plus, bonus of a Maths 'S' Paper Distinction, plus the malu failure in GP, which makes her cert rather comical.

After that, when most others went for scholarships in Engineering and Science, she chose to give up any chances for scholarship in Business (none are offered for business courses). She graduated with merit, not very spectacular.

After lobo-ing for almost a year, getting scolded by me all the time to get a job, got rejected by a music retail shop, rejected by OCBC, and turning down a very pitiful offer by Maybank, she landed a power-packed offer from GS.

Then, she just found out last week that she's the first in the whole GS to be offered a direct perm staff position - most fresh grads stay as contract staff for between half a year to a year before being converted. Also, half a month after entering, she gets picked for the Straits Times NUS adticle, and appears on newspaper - which some have been in the company more than 10 years and have never had the chance of.

Well u get the idea. So I'm confident that she'll be a somebody in time to come.

But like I always say, luck = preparation + opportunity, so she's got some juice too.

Today was hectic - went to courier some goods i sold on ebay to NSW, where Jon is studying, and got alerted by 2 emergencies. Attended to the first immediately, then bought a gift for Clarisse which she saw 2 days back, but didn't buy cos we were in a hurry. It's a black striped blouse, not another cute useless thingy. Aft that was lunch with her at Marina food court, then rushed down to attend to the 2nd emergency - but it turned out that it was more of a pain in the butt for them that doesn't go away than an emergency.

But it was the first time I got to visit the new Echo. Nice new place. Didn't take any photos cos dear borrowed e camera. I'll take more photos on my next trip down, Chris the boss said he would msg me when the cafe, Echo Loft, is ready. Djasli wasn't around... cos he kena the Dengue.

Hope he gets well soon... heard it's quite bad.

Anyway after that was more last min shopping, swim-steam session, and home for more housekeeping....i'm so damn househusbanated.
